RISC-V China Summit Closes as Ecosystem Gains Momentum: Architecture Now Holds 25% of the Global Processor Market in 2026

2026-10-26 Industry Insights

The 6th RISC-V China Summit concluded in Shenzhen on October 20. Industry experts at the event noted that the RISC-V architecture is expanding from embedded and IoT applications into high-value domains such as high-performance computing, data centers, and automotive electronics, with product adoption and ecosystem adaptation both accelerating. Industry data shows that in 2026, RISC-V has officially captured a 25% share of the global processor market — one in every four processors is now based on RISC-V.

As one of the world’s three major instruction set architectures alongside x86 and ARM, RISC-V’s core advantages lie in its open-source nature, design flexibility, and low power consumption: chip designers can customize processor cores for specific scenarios without paying heavy licensing fees while retaining their own intellectual property. Turing Award winner and director of the RISC-V International Open Source Laboratory David Patterson pointed out that instruction sets still matter in the AI era, and that RISC-V is a commercially viable architecture that should build a complete AI software stack around the inference market. Krste Asanovic, chief architect of the RISC-V International Foundation, added that AI agents excel at code porting work, substantially lowering the barrier to migrating to RISC-V. Leading vendors including Alibaba, NVIDIA, and Meta are all building next-generation products around RISC-V.

On the policy and market front, in September the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the National Development and Reform Commission jointly issued the 15th Five-Year Plan for the Electronic Information Manufacturing Industry, explicitly calling for advancing RISC-V R&D and industrialization and supporting RISC-V chips in AI, embedded systems, and other applications. Frost & Sullivan data shows China’s RISC-V main-control chip market grew from RMB 1.1 billion in 2021 to RMB 37.7 billion in 2025, a compound annual growth rate of 139.5%, and is projected to reach RMB 219.4 billion by 2030. Zhou Meng, executive secretary-general of the RISC-V Working Committee of the China Electronics Standardization Association, noted that open RISC-V application scenarios now exceed 300, with China’s chip design industry maintaining nearly 30% growth.

From an industry landscape perspective, RISC-V is reaching a pivotal transition from architecture-usable to ecosystem-friendly, and from single products to commercial scale. The open instruction set hands kernel customization rights to system and solution vendors — a natural fit for the scenario-defined computing logic of the AI era. As software stacks, toolchains, and industry standards gradually mature, RISC-V is scaling simultaneously across low-to-mid computing embedded applications and AI coprocessors, and a three-way processor landscape of x86, ARM, and RISC-V is taking shape. The key to the next stage is whether chips, software, systems, scenarios, and capital can form a closed loop.

For Junyi Microelectronics, the accelerating industrialization of RISC-V means a steadily widening selection of embedded processors. The company’s J-3568/J-3576/J-3588 core boards, K-series edge intelligent motherboards, and 5G-EDGE-3399Pro/AI-BOX-3588 edge computing hosts currently build their compute foundation on Arm-architecture SoCs while continuously tracking RISC-V ecosystem maturity. Combined with the IPC-i5-1235U industrial mini PC (x86) and touch panel all-in-one machines, Junyi maintains a choose-the-architecture-per-scenario multi-architecture product strategy, and can incorporate RISC-V solutions into customized carrier boards and complete machines to offer customers more flexible domestic computing options.
