RK3588 Industrial Edge Computing Box Integrates the Hermes WeChat AI Assistant: On-Duty Staff Troubleshoot Equipment With a Single WeChat Message, While RK1828 Reserves 20 TOPS of On-Device Compute

2026-11-02 Industry Insights

On October 31, an edge intelligence architecture combining an RK3588 industrial edge computing box, the Hermes WeChat AI assistant and an RK1828 on-device compute card made its debut in the technical community: field maintenance no longer requires logging into devices, digging through logs and flipping through technical manuals step by step — on-duty staff can simply send instructions to the AI assistant in WeChat to complete equipment status queries, manual retrieval and fault-information organization. The device handles stable operation and connections to field systems, the AI understands human instructions, and local compute reserves room for offline inference and private-network applications.

The solution is built on the DC_EN588 edge computing box from Dingchang Electronics, powered by the Rockchip RK3588 processor (octa-core 4x Cortex-A76 + 4x Cortex-A55, Mali-G610 GPU, 6 TOPS NPU), offering 9-36V wide-voltage input, a -45°C to 85°C wide operating temperature range, optically isolated industrial serial ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet, and CAN and GPIO field interfaces. Hermes Agent, an intelligent task assistant running on the edge device, provides three entry points — a web dashboard, WeChat and the command line — sharing the same configuration, memory and tool capabilities, with the domestic route defaulting to the Qwen 3.8-Max model; the RK1828 compute card adds 20 TOPS of on-device compute for on-device LLM and vision-language tasks. Conversations run in the cloud today and can later switch to local execution inside the chassis, covering offline and compliance-driven private-network scenarios.

From an industry-landscape perspective, the significance of this architecture lies not in any single piece of hardware but in turning the “AI assistant” into a standard interaction layer for industrial equipment: the old “log in, read logs, check the manual, troubleshoot step by step” workflow is replaced by one natural-language sentence, WeChat QR-code binding gives frontline staff a zero-learning-curve entry, and a single system can serve multiple bound users. This signals that the focus of edge intelligence competition is shifting from “compute specs” to “interaction efficiency” — whoever can package large-model capabilities into the daily workflow of industrial sites will win real orders on production lines and in equipment rooms strained by maintenance staffing; and the switchable “cloud conversation plus reserved on-device compute” design squarely addresses industrial customers’ compliance demand that data never leave the premises.

Junyi Microelectronics’ AI-BOX-3588 edge computing host and K-series edge AI motherboards are precisely the compute foundations for this kind of edge intelligence architecture: the Rockchip RK3588 platform, rich industrial interfaces, wide-temperature and wide-voltage design, and the 6 TOPS NPU are naturally suited to host on-site AI assistants and local inference workloads; the J-3568/J-3576/J-3588 core boards give equipment makers a flexible selection from mid-range to flagship, while the IPC-i5-1235U industrial mini PC and touch-panel all-in-ones complete the human-machine interaction entry on the shop floor. Junyi looks forward to working with more ecosystem partners to bring the “WeChat as the maintenance entry” paradigm of edge intelligence into more industrial settings.
