Rockchip Next-Gen Coprocessor RK186X Development Completed, Scheduled for Q4 Launch

2026-10-10 Industry Insights

Rockchip disclosed in its September 8 investor relations activity record that the company’s next-generation edge AI coprocessor RK186X has completed R&D and is planned for launch in Q4 2026 after subsequent testing and verification. At the September 11 semi-annual performance briefing, the company further stated that the RK186X features upgraded computing power compared to the RK182X and can support larger parameter on-device model deployment, forming a high-low combination with the RK182X to meet customer needs across different tiers.

As Rockchip’s first 3D-stacked architecture edge AI coprocessor, the RK182X currently has hundreds of customer projects under deep development across dozens of industries, with application scenarios covering companion robots, commercial cleaning robots, AI TVs, AI NAS, in-vehicle AI BOXes, and industrial quality inspection edge computing devices.

Rockchip’s “SoC + Coprocessor” decoupled big-brain/small-brain architecture in robot chip solutions offers core advantages including contention-free computing resources, flexible deployment, and independent iteration. The main chip serves as the robot’s “small brain” handling motion control, while the coprocessor serves as the “big brain” managing perception and decision-making.

The company also revealed that for next-generation flagship products RK3668 and RK3688, it has increased R&D resources for full-speed development. In terms of supply chain, the company has appropriately increased strategic inventory reserves, with inventory book value reaching RMB 1.518 billion by the end of Q2 2026.
