Infineon Unveils AURIX RC1: the World’s First RISC-V Automotive MCU Platform Lands as Multi-Architecture Race Heats Up

2026-11-06 Industry Insights

Event

On November 4, Infineon launched AURIX RC1 in Munich — the industry’s first automotive MCU platform based on the open RISC-V instruction set. It is the first product to ship since Infineon announced a full pivot of its next-generation automotive MCUs to RISC-V, moving automotive chip architecture competition from “announcing the shift” to “shipping the product.”

Technology / Product Details

AURIX RC1 is designed around multi-core, deterministic real-time execution, and functional safety, targeting domains with the highest reliability requirements such as powertrain, chassis, and body control, while balancing compute and efficiency within a single product line. The open RISC-V instruction set brings a customizable architecture and extensible ecosystem, and together with functional-safety frameworks such as ISO 26262, it can be embedded into complex automotive software stacks, giving OEMs a fresh option in their multi-chip, multi-architecture supply strategy.

From the Industry Landscape…

Automotive chips are entering a “multi-architecture parallel” era. The closed ecosystem of conventional automotive MCUs is being challenged by RISC-V’s openness, which means more flexible IP licensing, more controllable cost, and local customization. For domestic automotive chip vendors, RISC-V provides a window to compete with global leaders within the same technical framework, and the trend of automotive chips “from closed to open” is accelerating.

Junyi Business Link

Automotive-grade compute moving down to domain controllers, cockpits, and smart terminals raises the bar for reliable, mass-producible board solutions. Junyi Microelectronics’ core boards J-3568 / J-3576 / J-3588 and edge motherboards in the K series cover compute from cockpit interaction to surrounding sensing, edge computing hosts 5G-EDGE-3399Pro / AI-BOX-3588 serve as edge-inference nodes for vehicle-to-everything collaboration, and the industrial mini PC IPC-i5-1235U and all-in-one touch panel provide terminal carrier for in-vehicle and on-board human-machine interaction.
