Microchip Technology officially announced on September 21, 2026, the completion of its acquisition of Hailo. Hailo is a leading Israeli provider of edge AI processors, vision processors, and AI software technologies, with its Hailo-8, Hailo-10, and Hailo-15 product families wielding broad influence in the edge AI acceleration space. This acquisition significantly strengthens Microchip’s position in the embedded edge AI domain.
Hailo’s product portfolio spans the full compute spectrum from low-power smart cameras to high-performance robotics, autonomous machines, and next-generation Physical AI platforms. The Hailo-8 accelerator delivers 26 TOPS of compute, the Hailo-10H features 8GB of on-module memory, and the Hailo-15 integrates vision SoC capabilities with AI acceleration. These products support diverse workload types including CNNs, Transformers, large language models and vision-language models, alongside image signal processing, video encoding, and AI video stream analysis.
The acquisition brings Microchip more than 100 existing customers and an ecosystem exceeding 10,000 active developers. Hailo’s deep presence in the Raspberry Pi ecosystem, developer community engagement, and GitHub activity provide Microchip with a self-sustaining funnel that converts developer participation into commercial opportunities. Microchip plans to combine Hailo’s AI acceleration and vision technologies with its existing portfolio of embedded processors, FPGAs, connectivity, security, power, and analog solutions.
From an industry landscape perspective, Microchip’s acquisition of Hailo signals that traditional embedded giants are accelerating their transformation toward AI-native capabilities. In the edge AI era, standalone MCUs or FPGAs can no longer fully meet intelligent system demands, and converged architectures combining “embedded processing plus AI acceleration plus vision perception” are becoming mainstream. For domestic embedded core board vendors, this trend means designing hardware with reserved AI acceleration expansion interfaces and integrating more AI inference frameworks into the software stack.
Junyi Microelectronics closely monitors global embedded industry M&A dynamics and continuously evaluates the feasibility of integrating third-party AI acceleration solutions such as Hailo with RK3588/RK3576 core boards, providing customers with more flexible compute expansion options.
